Open Unto Their Cry

I was sitting with my nephew in the ER last night, and I asked if he had worked that day. He said no: “I called out” this morning.  That sounds so weird to me, even though I heard my granddaughter use the same phrase a couple of weeks ago.  I told her, you “call in” if you are sick, and “call out” if you need help!

Years ago, I was watching a tv show called “Chicago Fire,” a phrase the firefighters used caught my attention, “Call Out!”  Obviously, before a fireman uses this phrase, there must be some type of emergency requiring their assistance.  Once they determine that type of situation exists and that someone may need help, they yell, “Fire Department, CALL OUT!”

Can you imagine firemen responding to rescue someone with organization, skill, and urgency? They enter the smoke-filled building and ask if anyone is there.  There is only one thing left to do before they are rescued.  Yep… they need to “CALL OUT.”   It’s hard to believe that anyone conscious and able to speak would not respond to this request.  However, in the spiritual realm, people can be so blinded to this truth.  If you want God’s help, you need to CALL OUT!  If you want a pastor to help, you need to CALL OUT!  If you need a brother or sister in Christ to help, CALL OUT!

Romans 8:15

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Have you ever noticed that Romans 8:15 does not say we pray or that we speak, but rather that we CRY Abba.  There is urgency in a cry.  There is humility in a cry.  There is faith in a cry.  A cry is a powerful thing.  God heard the cry of His people in Egypt and prepared Moses to deliver them.  Jesus heard the cry of “the mother who would not give up or stop crying out,” and He healed her daughter.  Jesus heard her cry and said these beautiful words to her.

Matthew 15:28

Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

And then we have the following truth to consider…

Psalm 34:15

The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

I can picture the Lord at this very moment, ready to rescue…
