Minute by Minute

It’s been a long winter. However, according to The Weather Channel, we are gaining a minute of daylight every day. I’m a little excited that daylight saving time is only 12 days away, not because of the clock change, but because the cold days of winter will be behind us soon.
I love that the light is increasing and the darkness is decreasing every single day, even if it’s only a minute. I know God is doing this by design, and it has spiritual significance. I’m ever amazed by God’s handiwork.
He alone can add a minute more of daylight to our calendar each day, or make the Sun pause in the sky as he did in the Old Testament.
Joshua 10:12-14
Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. (13) And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. (14) And there was no day like that before it or after it that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.
There are a couple of things I really love about this story. First, Joshua knew who he was fighting for, and he understood that God had delivered the enemy into his hands. When we know we are serving the Lord, that increases our faith and our boldness. Secondly, even though God had delivered the enemy into Joshua's hands, he knew there would not be enough daylight to win the battle. So, the man of God just lifted his voice with boldness and said, "Sun, stand still upon Gibeon, and Moon, I'm talking to you, too! God was watching the battle, and being the only one who controls the Sun and the Moon, God said… "You heard the man, be still." And the result was the only real instance of daylight-saving time.
We can have great boldness when we know we are serving the Creator God. There is nothing He cannot do. What a mighty God we serve! So, as I watch the sun hand around a little longer each day, I think… “Only God could do a thing like that.”
All things are possible for those who believe.
