Eyes Have Seen

There were a few things that became part of my life as a child. There was always a guitar lying about. I picked it up as a child and taught myself to play through trial and error. One of my parents was always singing and sometimes playing that guitar. Mom and Dad both played. Dad sang… “When the roll is called up yonder,” and mom sang, “When they ring those golden bells for you and me.”
And there was always a copy of God’s Word somewhere on a table. I listened to men of God talk about it, including Billy Graham. But I decided very early on… while I was a boy, holding a copy of the bible in my hands, “This Book is God’s Word to me… I believed it for me!”
I’ve seen “the word come alive” with my own eyes. I’ve read it. I’ve ingested it, and it rings true in my heart. The spirit of God confirms within me… It’s true. I’ve experienced it for myself. For example, when I need to hear something from the Lord, God often reminds me of a passage from his book. Sometimes he leads me to an old, familiar scripture hidden in my heart, and sometimes he leads me to a hidden treasure within that very same sacred book.
After all these years… I’m still amazed by God’s Word. Time and time again, it has changed my life. It takes me from fear to faith. It carries me from despair to trust. It lifts me from weary to worship. It transports me from broken to blessed.
My Dad used to sing…
Isn't He wonderful, wonderful, wonderful,
Isn't Jesus, my Lord, wonderful!
Eyes have seen, ears have heard,
It's recorded in God's Word--
Isn't Jesus, my Lord, wonderful!
There are so many reasons to believe the Bible is from God. But for me… I believe because “my eyes have seen…” and “my ears have heard.” And that has made all the difference for me.

1 John 1:1-3
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (2) (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) (3) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
