Bless Our Hearts

I’ve heard someone mention that you can say anything you want about someone if you end the statement with the following words… “bless their heart.” This is probably a sad truth, but true, nonetheless. For example, we might say, “She just doesn’t know how to dress, bless her heart.” Or we might say, the guy doesn’t have a filter, bless his heart.””
Words come from thoughts, and we are taught that we shall give an account for every idle word. That’s a scary thought for a person who talks as much as I do, and I need all the help I can get to make sure my words are pleasing to the Lord.
We are the ones who allow our minds to focus on the good or bad in the world. This is why it's so important that God has our focus. Probably, the best way to start your day with your mind thinking the right way is to read something from God’s word.
A person who meditates in God’s word…
· Will be thinking about the Lord.
· All those God thoughts are going to leak out as that person goes through their day.
· Their mouths will be a source of truth and blessing.
· Their actions will follow all those God thoughts by doing what is pleasing to the Lord.
· I believe a person whose mind is on the Lord will not only have perfect peace, as the scripture declares, but will have a peaceful effect on the people who are near them.
All this must be important if the following passage is true… which it is.
Matthew 12:33-37
Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. (34) O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. (35) A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. (36) But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. (37) For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
No man can control his tongue (James 3:8), but God can. So let us surrender our thoughts, words, and actions to his leading. And may God be merciful to us all… because we are such a mess… “bless our hearts!”
