A Promise for Parents

“I don't believe there is anything more moving than the cry of a mother's heart. I also believe nothing touches our God more than our brutal honesty and complete dependence on Him. Sometimes, it's hard for us to admit that our children aren't perfect (believe me, I know). I've struggled and had to overcome the fact that my kids' bad choices are not always a reflection of my "bad parenting."
There is a battle in the hearts and minds of many parents because “the accuser” is quick to point his unholy finger at the believing parent as the reason for our children’s struggles. Satan is a liar, and he wants us to place blame on everyone and everything besides him. The truth is, his time is short, and he is out not only to keep the lost from being found, but I think he's stepped up his game against those who proclaim the name of Christ. If he can distract us, humiliate us, and cause us to lose hope, then he can limit our effectiveness in the kingdom. I'm so thankful that we serve a GOD who is so much more powerful than our enemy. He can change hearts, minds, and attitudes (when we let Him).
Isaiah 61:11
For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
Joe pointed out to me this week that a single daffodil had begun to bloom in our backyard, only days after lingering ice had finally melted away. It’s a sure sign of God’s faithfulness. He is the giver of life. He is the one who keeps His promises.
Among the many promises God has made, I believe with all my heart that intercessory prayer is one of the strongest pieces of armor we have as parents. I am evidence of intercessory prayer. So are my children. So are yours. It is an honor and a privilege to call out your child’s name…
· To the One who created them.
· To the One who loves them.
· To the One who gave his life so that they could live a full, abundant life.
And so, as winter slowly gives way to spring, and all around us we begin to see the signs of new life, let us remember God’s faithful promise. He hears and answers the prayers of His children. It’s not too late for our children, and it’s not too late for you. Jesus is life. Jesus is the way. Time with Christ is the way out of darkness. Jesus is the truth. Allow God’s truth to rise in your heart, and surely as spring is on the way… You, too, will bloom again.
