The Prayer Emphasis Team
Our purpose is to teach members of the church how to understand prayer and what a powerful gift of God it is.
What Is Prayer?
Prayer is direct communication with our Heavenly Father. Like a child comes to its parents, God wants us to come to Him with our hopes, dreams, questions, and problems. God wants us to pray, He wants to give us the desires of our hearts. Jesus makes this clear Himself in Mark 11:24 NIV:
"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."
Spiritual Warfare
Whether you know it or not, there is a war raging all around us. It cannot be seen by our eyes, but nevertheless it is there. It is the battle for us. Prayer and God's Word, referred to as the "Sword Of The Spirit", are the most important weapons available to us. Combined they help us resist tempation, make the right choices, and keep "the enemy" at bay.

Building On Prayer
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him." Matthew 6:5-8
How sweet it is that our heavenly Father wants us to come to Him quietly and simply. I don't need to shout, or use eloquent speech. I can go in my room and close my door and talk to my Father. How intimate. When it comes to approaching God, keep it simple. Isn't it ironic that in the very next verse, the example Jesus gives of prayer is the prayer most often repeated and usually spoken out loud in front of other people.
